Playing with the Grid: Formal Investigations in First-Year Architecture Studio

An NUP/ADU ERASMUS+ joined Project

Cyprus and Pafos have always been a definition of cultural crossroads. A small city with a disproportionate cultural capital, a will to avail every single speck of opportunity, fantastic landscapes.
On my second ever visit to the island, i was honored to return Assistant Professor Eve Dova's visit to Abu Dhabi last Fall for the purposes of our joined ERASMUS+ Program of the EU between the Neapolis University Pafos and Abu Dhabi University.
Through our paired Architecture Studios, we were able to examine architecture teaching methodologies that transcend stereotypes, and discuss in the spatial geometrical language of the "Cube", bridging Pafos and AbuDhabi.

On day 1, I was happy to deliver a major lecture entitled: “The automobile urbanism of Abu Dhabi; In search for asphalt utopias”.

On day 2, I contributed to a studio workshop, entitled: “Playing with the grid: Formal investigations in First-Year Architecture Studio”.

I met some amazing talents and i was honored to get a glimpse on their ideas.
I would like to thank NUP, its Chancellor and ILIANA KELI for their heartwarming hospitality, Ioannis Pissourios and Prof. Solon Xenopoulos for their kindest of words.

I am so happy to open up the amazing 'world' of the Erasmus program for ADU, at a first for all GCC region.
Hopefully, we will only be able to strengthen our ties and produce even more joined work and research.
